Fall workshops @ the library
Thursday, September 15, 1-2 p.m. – Serious social networking
Learn about online tools you can use to craft a professional presence and network on the web, while protecting your reputation and privacy.
Thursday, September 29, 1-2 p.m. – Searching the deep web
The deep web, also known as the invisible web, consists of content that you won't find through general internet searching. Search engines have difficulty indexing certain kinds of web pages (i.e., PDFs and dynamically-created pages), but there are tools to help you find this "hidden" information. This workshop will introduce you to searchable databases and explain why some pages are "invisible" to search engines.
Thursday, October 13, 1-2 p.m. – Using LaTeX for your dissertation or thesis
The library provides a LaTeX template that contains all of the formatting required for doing your dissertation or thesis. We will be holding a workshop to go over how to use the template and the different ways to create a bibliography using BibTeX for your paper.
Thursday, October 27, 1-2 p.m. – Using RefWorks to manage references
RefWorks helps you organize and manage your references as you work on a paper or project. Learn how to move references directly from the databases to your own RefWorks account, cite your sources easily, create bibliographies, and insert references into your research paper as you write it.
Thursday, November 10, 1-2 p.m. – Analyzing your citations using Scopus & Google analytics
Citation searching and bibliometrics can help you determine how much impact an author has in a field and which journals are the best in a field. This workshop is important for students, researchers, and faculty thinking about publishing, writing a thesis or dissertation, or applying for promotion or tenure.
Thursday, December 1, 1-2 p.m. – Investment and company research
The library’s access to business & industry databases can help you with your job searching, personal investing, and course work. We’ll discuss Standard & Poor’s NetAdvantage, Value Line, Lexis-Nexis Academic, Datamonitor Reports, Plunkett Research, and Gartner Research.
